Alamo ALA and Our Community - 2008
ALA's Community Challenge Weekend is an annual volunteer community service oriented outing in which members may participate.
The Alamo Chapter participated in two CCW events this year. The first was a food drive in support of the San Antonio Food Bank. We collected over 350 pounds of food and also made a cash donation. This collection came at an especially needy time – San Antonio was hosting many of the refugees from Hurricane Ike so the resources of the Food Bank were being stretched thin. Our second event was to volunteer to assist on October 11th with repairs at one of the San Antonio Youth Centers and seven chapter members participated, along with our mascot, "Trigger". This is the second time that our chapter has chosen this United Way agency for its Community Challenge Weekend project. The S.A. Youth Centers provide a wholesome place for inner city kids to come after school. Their motto is, "Shaping the hearts, minds and futures of San Antonio's youth."
